Marketing veterans James and Tracy McCoy have a tongue-in-cheek phrase to describe the experience of discovering an eye-opening opportunity: They call it “getting fish-slapped.” It’s a memorable term — one the couple introduced to the world in 2015 with the launch of Get Fish Slapped, a digital marketing agency based in Sebring, Florida.
“We wanted the business to be fun and approachable,” said Tracy McCoy. The co-founders also wanted a name that would convey the company’s mission: Helping businesses discover new ways to manage their online marketing and branding — a goal they’ve reached with the help of Apple Business Connect.
McCoy first discovered Apple Business Connect while helping a client with a listing. Not long afterward, she decided to check out Apple Business Connect herself, using it to update her company’s presence across Apple devices. “Staying current with industry trends is essential to us, so we aim to set an example for our clients and community,” she noted. The company uses showcases to spotlight their seminars and events, updating them regularly. And its Maps place card features the company’s logo alongside photos of its 10-person staff.
“With Apple’s extensive user base, we want to ensure our place card looks polished when accessed via Maps and other Apple apps.”
McCoy quickly saw the benefits of registering with Apple Business Connect. When they added their business and contact information to their place card, the average number of leads, including calls and form submissions to Get Fish Slapped, nearly doubled, as did traffic to the company’s website. Their location in Sebring even began receiving more walk-in visitors. As a result, 2024 was “a record-breaking one for us,” McCoy said.
After having so much success with Apple Business Connect, McCoy began using it with her clients. “Many of them don’t know what Business Connect is,” she said. “But they know what Maps is. We tell them Business Connect will let them take control of not only their Maps listing, but also how they show up across numerous Apple apps. I also let them know that they can do more with Apple than they can with Google.”
Get Fish Slapped uses Apple Business Connect to not only register its clients’ businesses on Maps, but also to ensure each listing features up-to-date information, compelling showcase promotions, and dynamic visuals. “As a creative agency, it‘s important to know that our clients‘ designs look great across all devices,” McCoy said. In addition to maintaining their Maps listings, Get Fish Slapped encourages its clients to take advantage of more features like Branded Mail, which enables a brand to add its logo and name to business emails, increasing trust with customers. Together, they help McCoy — and Get Fish Slapped — realize one of the company‘s key goals for clients: “We want to make sure their business stands out on Maps!”
